Who Am I?
Hello there! My name is Matias Giachino and this is my portfolio. I'm a third year transfer student at UCSD, working towards an Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Major and a Computer Science Minor. In other words, I love to create works that are both evocative and technically intriguing.
I'd be more than happy to give you a little rundown on my interests and the tools I use to get the work done.
My Interests
I love to play around in Flash with ActionScript 3, sometimes a cool little program comes out of it but more often than not it's just a proof-of-concept standalone.
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are always a blast to mess around in. JavaScript especially, I love finding out what can and can't be done to elements in real-time and I try to keep it cross-browser friendly. This site is a great testbed for fiddling with, if you come back you might just see some new script adding a cool feature or two.
In addition to the above, writing extensions for Chrome and Firefox is my latest passion. There is something so satisfying about being able to make the tool I use so often even more useful and tailored to my own needs.
I also love to read science fiction novels and doodle in my spare time. I love to play computer and console games too, mostly rpgs but I like to play a little bit of everything from fps to strategy.
Tools I Use
The one I use the most often is simply the notepad. Most of my code writing happens in Notepad++, especially for the more extensive find/replace and undo features.
Photoshop is a must. I use it to create any images I might need for anything I'm doing. Sometimes you can also find me just playing around in it trying to see what else I can create.
StackOverflow is an invaluable tool, the site is both an archive and a hotbed for questions and answers to most if not all programming related questions.
